large quantities of 謂語單數(shù)還是復(fù)數(shù)

large quantities of +復(fù)數(shù)可數(shù)名詞時,謂語動詞用復(fù)數(shù)。large quantity of 后面可以跟復(fù)數(shù)可數(shù)名詞,也可以跟不可數(shù)名詞,但無論哪種,做主語時,謂語動詞通常用單數(shù)。

1.quantity表示“數(shù)量”時，如果是指相對于質(zhì)量來說的“數(shù)量”，則為不可數(shù)名詞。

例句：We've always put quality before quantity.

我們總是認為質(zhì)量比數(shù)量重要。

2.quantity如果指具體的數(shù)量，一般為可數(shù)名詞，這時可以連用不定冠詞或者用復(fù)數(shù)形式;如果要表示數(shù)量的多少，則可以用 great, large, huge或者small 等形容詞修飾;quantity既可以用于修飾不可數(shù)名詞，也可以用于修飾復(fù)數(shù)名詞。

例句：Don't strive merely for quantity of production.

在生產(chǎn)中不要單純地追求數(shù)量。

He ate a small quantity of rice.

他吃了少量的米飯。

注意事項：在某些特殊表達中，quantity可單獨表示“大量”(沒有l(wèi)arge或者great之類的修飾語)的意思。

例句：Heavy drinking can reduce the quality and quantity of sperm.

大量飲酒會降低精子的質(zhì)量和數(shù)量。

3.當quantity在a great (large, small) quantity of…這個結(jié)構(gòu)作主語時，其謂語的數(shù)原則上和其中的名詞的數(shù)保持一致。

例句：A large quantity of air-conditioners has been sold since the temperature is high.

因為氣溫很高，有大量空調(diào)售出。

注意事項：如果該結(jié)構(gòu)變成quantities of…這樣的形式，當這一結(jié)構(gòu)用作主語時，其謂語動詞一律要用復(fù)數(shù)。

例句：Quantities of books were on the bed. 在床上有很多很多書。
