“國(guó)慶”一詞，本指國(guó)家喜慶之事，最早見于西晉。西晉的文學(xué)家陸機(jī)在《五等諸侯論》一文中就曾有“國(guó)慶獨(dú)饗其利，主憂莫與其害”的記載。國(guó)慶節(jié)是指國(guó)家有在這個(gè)日子有喜慶的事情，在我國(guó)的古代一般用于帝皇登基誕辰等喜慶之事。

1949年9月21日，***的***就已經(jīng)在會(huì)議的開幕詞中宣告了新***的誕生。1949年10月1日，在天安門廣場(chǎng)舉行了盛大的慶典。1949年10月2日，***規(guī)定每年10月1日為國(guó)慶日，并以這***作為宣告***成立的日子。
